A recent testimonial:Â
"Marie has been a light in my life each week while I navigate mental health struggles, childhood trauma, parenthood, adhd/ocd and stuff I don't even understand much yet 😅 She is calm and supportive, and I feel safe when I'm with her. I have had difficult experiences with counsellors in the past which put me off reaching out for years, but Marie's training and methods are a great fit for me. I feel able to concentrate in session as she has not taken physical notes and yet she is still able to remember what I have said in other sessions and relay it back to me. I often feel this helps me understand better and get the most out of our time. Marie also checks in with me before continuing and holds space when I struggle or am trying to find the clarity to speak. We are only a few sessions in but I already feel lighter in my day to day and more confident to tackle my anxiety about things that have effected me for years. If you are on the fence about therapy, do yourself a favour and make the call - it's possibly the hardest step but it could help you be in a brighter place as a result. You can trust Marie with anything, why not see if Vaile counselling is a fit for you. Thank you Marie for all your help so far" - AnonymousÂ
Hi – I'm Marie
I'm a qualified integrative counsellor based in Barry, in the beautiful Vale of Glamorgan, ideally located for clients in Cardiff and across the wider Vale.
I know from personal experience how daunting it can feel to reach out for counselling. Choosing someone to share your most personal and vulnerable experiences with takes courage, so I want to share a little about me to help you feel more at ease.
Before qualifying a counsellor and during my training, I spent many years working in the social care sector with mental health charities across Cardiff and the Vale. This gave me a deep understanding of the broad range of mental health challenges people face. I've worked with adults of all ages, supporting them with everything from day-to-day stress and anxiety to processing complex trauma and abuse.
I spent a few years as a substance use counsellor, working with people in current addiction and those in recovery. A large part of this work was discovering new coping tools to manage whatever the reasons for addiction taking hold of originally. These clients were angry and misunderstood - so being able to provide a warm and safe space created an opportunity to learn and grow.Â
A major reason I chose to train as a counsellor was to offer specialist support in maternal mental health – an area that is too often misunderstood and under-supported. Having experienced my own mental health struggles during pregnancy and following the birth of my son, I know first-hand how overwhelming this life transition can be. This extends to partners also, as their emotions can often be overlooked.Â
I'm passionate about supporting parents – both individually and as couples – as they navigate the realities of early parenthood. Whether you're feeling lost, anxious, disconnected or burdened by shame or guilt, I offer a safe, non-judgemental space to gently explore what’s going on and work towards a sense of peace and self-compassion.
My counselling room is warm, cosy, and designed to help you feel relaxed and truly yourself. There’s also an on-site café if you’d like to grab a coffee before or after your session. Whilst my room is located on the first floor, there is a lift to ensure accessibility.Â
Outside of my counselling work, you’ll often find me walking by the sea – with an ice cream or coffee in hand – on one of the many stunning beaches the Vale of Glamorgan has to offer.
I hope this gives you a sense of who I am and what I offer. If you're considering counselling, I’d be honoured to hear from you and see how I might support you through whatever you’re facing right now.
Warmly,
Marie
