My Approach

There isn't one way to do therapy.

Every person who walks through my door is different.

That's why I work integratively, drawing on different therapeutic approaches and adapting our work around you rather than expecting you to fit into a particular model.

Person-centred at heart

My core approach is person-centred.

For me, that means creating a relationship built on empathy, acceptance, honesty and trust.

You are the expert on your own life.

My role is to help you explore what you're experiencing, perhaps see things from a different perspective and develop a deeper understanding of yourself.

Sometimes gentle challenge is needed.

Counselling isn't always about reassurance.

Sometimes we need to gently explore the things we're avoiding, the patterns we keep repeating or the beliefs we have about ourselves.

I'll always aim to do this collaboratively and respectfully.

And sometimes practical tools help too.

Talking can be incredibly valuable, but sometimes having something practical to take away can help too.

Where appropriate, I may use CBT-informed exercises, worksheets, reflective activities or strategies that you can try between sessions.

We'll always discuss this together rather than me simply handing you homework!

Most importantly...

I want therapy to feel like a space where you can be honest.

You don't need to impress me.

You don't need to have the "right" answer.

And you definitely don't need to pretend that everything is okay.

You can simply come as you are.
